California Wildlife Center is a good wildlife rehabilitation facility

I am sorry that I have to mention California Wildlife Center in this issue. They did nothing wrong in this situation with Rebecca Dmytryk. I just need to show that Rebecca Dmytryk has been attacking people and organizations for years. It's her MO. She attacked California Wildlife Center, City of Los Angeles, GM of LA Animal Services Jerry Greenwalt, City Councilwoman Jan Perry, Fish & Game, City of Moorpark, City of Malibu, City of Santa Monica, many other rehabbers and homeowners besides me. Most people live in fear of the woman.

When I first became a wildlife rehabilitator Warden Joseph Baima told me she was bad news and I should stay away from her. I most certainly did. She still has been attacking me since 2002, over ten years.

California Wildlife Center is very different than it was back in 2000. All the changes have been for the better. Before Rebecca Dmytryk ran it as her own personal business. There were many complaints. The best thing they ever did was vote her off the board. If she had stayed on the board and continued with her negative behavior, CWC would have crumbled and that would have been a shame. They do a lot of good work.

I remember the first time I met Rebecca Dmtryk in 2001. She was giving a "Wildlife Paramedic" class in the community center in Malibu next to the beach. I still have that class "manual" which is just copy/paste of other people's articles. She started the class off with "I started CWC. Then my board members stole it from me and kicked me out." Then she trashed CWC. I didn't even know she had anything to do with CWC at that time. I thought it was pretty odd she'd start off the class that way. As the class progressed I totally understood why CWC would not her on the board. She did not know what she was talking about, gave bad advice and has very poor people skills. She has not changed a bit. If anything, I believe her people skills have continued to deteriorate.

I think it was a year or so ago when Rebecca Dmytryk approached Brenda Barnette of LA Animal Services. Dmytryk told Barnette that she, Dmytryk, must be paid to set up a wildlife policy and transportation system. I told Barnette that we did that for free back in 2004. The system is working well. Dmytryk was doing her same extortion routine that she did in 2004. I told Barnette to ask the people who were at the 2003 meeting that she crashed, illegally record then tried to extort the city. LA did not hire Dmytryk.

Rebecca Dmytryk and *** are so very much alike. They're both uneducated though I think Dmytryk at least went to high school. They both claim to be experts when they are not. They take credit for the work of others. They live to attack and threaten people with negative media, lawsuits and being turned into the authorities. Truly two peas in a pod.

Rebecca Dmytryk doesn't know when Earth Day is

Rebecca Dmytryk is not a wildlife rehabilitator. She has never had a wildlife rehabilitation permit as per Fish & Game. She admits she does not rehab wildlife. She says she just does rescue. What she actually does is "try" to rescue animals. Her main purpose is to take video, promote herself as a rescuer to the media to feed her ego and get donations from the public. If the animal survives, she dumps it on a rehabber who has to feed it hourly for weeks, care for it for months at great expense. She does not give the donation to the rehabber which is really bad form. If I pick up a bird for another rehabber, I always give them the donation and intake form besides getting the animal stabilized and cared for.

Rebecca Dmytryk sends a post to the CCWR Yahoo group. She says we can help clean up fishing line on Earth Day. She gets the days mixed up. For the life of me I do not know why she is a member of the California Council for Wildlife Rehabilitators. I believe they fear her mean spirit which is why they allow her. She tries to tell us how to rehab wildlife when she is not a rehabber. She gives really bad advice. I will be posting her CCWR posts here for all to see others rehabber tell her she doesn't know what she is talking about.

Hi Rebecca hate to rain on your wonderful idea but you have picked a really bad time for most rehabbers its baby season and the majority of us are up to our little ears in little ones and 2-3-4 hour feedings. Can we move this to later like Sept or October the weather is nice and at he babies are either gone or grown and do not require so much of our attention. Otherwise I would join you but no can do but it does lsound like fun, gets us
out and accomplishes a much needed effort.

The infamous "beer can on seagulls' heads" ruse

I remember when Rebecca Dmytryk first started posting about this "story." I knew something wasn't right. In the end it appears it was all just a ruse on the part of Rebecca Dmytryk to get money. As per Rebecca Dmytryk's bankruptcy documents she wasn't making much money. I'm pretty sure she is living off of donations to WildRescue.

Supposedly Rebecca had been receiving emails about seagulls with cut beer cans on their heads October 2012 but they didn't do anything about it because they were out of town. November 2012 they state they have received photographic evidence and start sending around this photo. They state the bird cannot eat or drink with this can on it's head. Supposedly the can had been on for months. Then why isn't it dead? Also note that they are taking this pic up close. Seagull isn't frightened of them. Bird looks perfectly healthy.

Rebecca Dmytryk says the "only" way to save these birds is to give them I think it was $3,500 for a net launcher. A netlauncher would be too powerful for one seagull. Plus, remember, this one hasn't eaten or had any water in over a month <eye roll>. From the internet,

"MOSS LANDING (CBS/AP) – A wildlife rescue group said beer can chokers worn by at least three seagulls from San Francisco to Half Moon Bay are no joke—and no accident.

WildRescue director Rebecca Dmytryk said members of her group spotted one of the birds over the weekend, but couldn’t catch it. Dmytryk urged the public not to try catching the birds, either."
Notice members of WildRescue spotted one of the birds. Hmmm. More from the articles,
"I feel pretty confident that if word gets around, we’ll be able to find the birds and help them," Dmytryk said. "I’m also hopeful that we’ll track down the perpetrator, maybe even through fingerprints. But, just that people are watching, and there’s a bounty, maybe that’s enough to get them to stop torturing animals." So who'd do such a thing? "It's probably someone who is bored and needing to show off," said Dmytryk."
Of course she feels confident they'll "find" the bird and "help" it. Notice she says it's probably someone needing to "show off." How very telling. Would that be Rebecca Dmytryk? And more,
"Now, Moss Landing-based WildRescue is hoping to raise $3,500 to buy a high-tech piece of equipment called a Coda Netlauncher to help the birds, and said they’re pretty much at a loss without it."
Everyone soon realizes it's all a scam. They even offered a reward for info leading to the person who put the beer can on the bird's head. I said it was probably Rebecca Dmytryk. Where do I get my reward money?
When the gig was up and people online were posting that it was probably a scam, they all of a sudden catch the seagull with a regular net. They didn't need the net gun after all.
If that wasn't enough the video of them removing the can is laughable. You could just take the can off the bird's head but no, not theatrical enough. They cut it off slowly for the camera. The bird's feathers under the can are perfect. He did not have that can on his head for three months or even three weeks or days. I bet they put it on him that morning. If you look at the video they release the seagull who then turns around and comes back to them.
The Coda Netlauncher is for trapping a few birds at once, not just one. From their site "The Coda Netlauncher is ideal for capturing a large number of birds in a single remote firing. It is used often for bird flu sampling. It is also used for relocation of nuisance or pesky birds such as pigeons at retail locations."
One last thing which really gave Rebecca Dmytryk away was when she was posting about being in the field and looking for the bird. She would type out "from my iPhone" on her Facebook page. That's not how it works. It's automatic. Yes, she was sitting at her house typing on a regular computer and just wanted people to think she was in the field. She wasn't. She was lying. I saved an image of that ridiculous post.
I'd like to say that this "myth" of the seagulls with beer cans on their heads is officially busted.

Rebecca Dmytryk gives bad bat advice then takes credit for my work and others

Moorpark had a problem with California myotis bats which tested positive for rabies. The Health Dept ordered the homeowner to quarantine the bats. He hired a pest control operator who did a crappy job and the bats easily left.
Rebecca Dmytryk kept giving this really bad advice. She says rabid bats leave their colonies to die. No, they don't. They generally stay in the roost as they are unable to fly well enough to leave. They die in the roost. I know this because when I was at ***we were picking up a couple of dead bats per day from the floor which ***stated most likely died from rabies. We did not pick up any outside the roost.
"Just because a number of grounded bats have tested positive for rabies, this does not mean the colony itself is rabid. Rabid bats leave their colony to die alone. This is likely why there has never been an outbreak of rabies in a colony of bats in all recorded history," said Rebecca Dmytryk, administrator for WildRescue.~Ventura County Star
Rebecca Dmytryk and ***then attacked the health dept, city of moorpark and homeowners. They pissed off the homeowners so much that they ordered the pest control person to trap and kill the bats. They told me they wanted them dead so the bat huggers would shut up.
I went there and offered my help for free. We inspected and wrote a report for the city instantly. The bats left that house and went next door. The number of rabid bats then dropped. *** and Rebecca Dmytryk then attack me saying that I told them to trap and kill the bats. I most certainly did not.
In the end the bats were saved in spite of all the crap that Rebecca Dmytryk and *** did. Guess who took credit for that? Rebecca Dmytryk and ***! They both posted that they were the reason for the positive ending. *** even wrote about it in her newsletter. SHE is the hero. This is how crazy these two individuals are.

Rebecca Dmytryk of WildRescue denied contract with City of Malibu

Rebecca Dmytryk tried to get a contract with the City of Malibu to perform wildlife rescue services. She was denied. Below is the agenda item where they recommend denying her.

http://www.animaladvocates.us/dmytryk_denied_city_contract.pdf

In Dmytryk's application for permit she writes a defamatory letter about the California Wildlife Center. They respond, see below.

http://www.animaladvocates.us/rebecca_dmytryk_cwc_letter.pdf

This is what Rebecca Dmytryk does. She attacks groups and cities out of jealousy. She tried to get a contract with the City of LA during the same time. This is when I got the new LA City wildlife policy passed. She crashed our meeting uninvited, illegally tape recorded it then attacked the City and animal control. That is not how you get a city contract.

Rebecca Dmytryk tells people to shoot squirrels or crush their skulls

Rebecca Dmytryk said this to a reporter for the LA Times knowing it'd be picked up. She wants people to shoot squirrels or crush their skulls. This is really horrible advice. It's also totally wrong. You don't need written permission from every neighbor. You can trap and release squirrels on site or close to where found. You are allowed to let Eastern Fox squirrels free. They have not been deemed a pest species. California ground squirrels are pest species. This is what I mean about her  horrible advice.
http://articles.latimes.com/2011/jun/20/local/la-me-0619-lopez-apricotjam-20110620

"Rebecca Dmytryk of WildRescue, a nonprofit dedicated to wildlife preservation, told me no homeowner can trap a wild animal in California without written permission from every neighbor within 150 yards. And, she said, you can't relocate a non-indigenous animal that you've trapped, because it might then compete with a native animal — such as the Western gray squirrel.
So what are you supposed to do?
"You can legally euthanize," Dmytryk said.
Here we are, back to squirrel stew.
"As long as you legally trap it and legally, humanely euthanize it and it has been deemed a pest species."
So let's review: You can trap and kill a squirrel, but not release it into a park? By the way, how do you humanely kill a squirrel?
You might shoot it, Dmytryk said, or use "blunt trauma to the head." Yeah, that sounds humane."

Rebecca Dmytryk kicked out of California Wildlife Center

From court documents. The California Wildlife Center filed a restraining order against Rebecca Dmytryk. After she was voted off the board she refused to leave the premises, stole money, property...

"This case results from the unauthorized conduct by defendant Rebecca Dmytryk a recently removed and now disgruntled former member of the board of directors of the california wildlife center. By a majority vote of the board at a special meeting held on January 29, 2000 at Dmytryk's request, plaintiff Aaron Frank and the only other present board member Janice Nokira voted to remove Dmytryk from the board as a result of her inability to work with the center's paid staff and volunteers and her generally hostile disposition. Instead of turning over possession of the center's property and control of access to the premises to Frank or Nokira, Dmytryk instead has resorted to self-help tactics by taking the center, its property, and the premises hostage in a last ditch effort to salvage her position with the center.

Among other things, Dmytryk has used her threatening disposition to drive the Center's paid staff, the other board members and a majority of the volunteers off the premises. In addition, Dmytryk changed the locks to the residence of Frank and the center's other paid employee, Dawn Marie Smith, and placed their personal property on the street. Dmytryk also has absconded with the center's bank accounts, disabled its emergency response system and prevented the paid staff, board members and volunteers from accessing their telephones and voice-mail.

As a result the center's operations have come to a screeching half. Volunteers have been instructed not to appear on the premises and, instead, Dmytryk has moved onto the premises and is believed to be using it as her own personal residence."

Glenda Singer affidavit, "Since I began working at the center, I have found Ms. Dmytryk to be tyrannical and unappreciative of the efforts of the volunteers. In fact, I have experienced trouble retaining volunteers due to Ms. Dmytryk's disposition.

Most recently on February 6, 2000 at 11:30 a.m. I was working at the center in an attempt to update the computer's database regarding the center's school education program. Without provocation Ms. Dmytryk walked over to the computer and turned off the computer. Thereafter I stood up and Ms. Dmytryk followed me around the center before (1) instructing me to gather my personal belongings; (2) grabbing an office supplies box out of my hand; (3) accusing me of improperly spending the center's funds and (4) demanding that I leave the center.

My primacy concern s that the center continue to operate by caring for the animals currently being treated and that the center's future is protected by a return of control of the center to Mr. Frank."

Janice Nikora affidavit, "There recently has been a developing tension between Ms. Dmytryk and Mr. Frank. It is my belief that this tension results directly from Mr. Dmytryk's inability to work constructively with others."

Dawn Marie Smith affidavit. "As the director of animal care at the center, it is imperative that I reside on the Center's property. I was advised by several volunteers that a return to my residence at the center would endanger my safety. As a result I did not attempt to go home until today. When I returned I discovered that all of my personal property had been placed outside my residence and the locks had been changed. My continued absence from the center endangers the animals currently being treat as well as the ability of the center to continue operating."

I Mary Cummins have known Rebecca Dmytryk since 2002. I totally agree with what these people said in their affidavits.  She has major social problems, does not work well with others and actually attacks other people. I was told she was kicked off the oil spill team because of her personality problems. I know from dealing with her that she is extremely vicious and hostile. She does not work well with city or state departments.
